A free school under a bridge in India

Founder of a free school for slum children Rajesh Kumar Sharma, second from right, and Laxmi Chandra, right, write on black boards, painted on a building wall, at a free school run under a metro bridge in New Delhi, India. At least 30 children living in the nearby slums have been receiving free education from this school for the last three years.

Rajesh Kumar Sharma, teach Somnath, an underprivileged Indian slum child at the school.

Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words. – St. Francis of Assi

The truth is that the 143 million orphaned children and the 11 million who starve to death or die from preventable diseases and the 8.5 million who work as child slaves, prostitutes, or under other horrific conditions and the 2.3 million who live with HIV add up to 164.8 million needy children,  And though at first glance that looks like a big number, 2.1 billion poeple on this earth proclaim to be Christians.

The truth is that if only 8 percent of the Christians would care for one more child, there would not be any statistics left.

This is the Truth. I have the freedom to believe it. The freedom, the opportunity to do something about it. The truth is that He loves these children just as much as He loves me and now that I know, I am responsible.

How cute is she?

My roommate fell asleep in her freshly dried laundry this afternoon after she dumped it on her bed.  How did I get so blessed with the most darling girl as my best friend on this side of the country?

BOOM! Poetry Memorization

Busted out the first and last stanza today!  Thanks Browning!  What a lovely poem to speak out loud.

Love among the Ruins

Where the quiet-coloured end of evening smiles,
         Miles and miles
On the solitary pastures where our sheep
         Half-asleep
Tinkle homeward thro’ the twilight, stray or stop
         As they crop—
Was the site once of a city great and gay,
         (So they say)
Of our country’s very capital, its prince
         Ages since
Held his court in, gathered councils, wielding far
         Peace or war.
——————————–
In one year they sent a million fighters forth
         South and North,
And they built their gods a brazen pillar high
         As the sky
Yet reserved a thousand chariots in full force—
         Gold, of course.
O heart! oh blood that freezes, blood that burns!
         Earth’s returns
For whole centuries of folly, noise and sin!
         Shut them in,
With their triumphs and their glories and the rest!
         Love is best.

Dear Lab Group,

Science ain’t my thing.  Environmental Science (AKA enjoying nature: YES says the mountain child!) is easily the best choice for me.  But you guys seriously make lab the best part of my week.  I never want it to end.  Have I said that about a single class at this college yet?  I think not.  You are my favorite.

Love,

Me
